Vision
The Department of Biochemistry will be a leader in research and the integrative training of students at all degree levels by building on pedagogical strengths and emerging research themes. Education and research will engage and elevate the burgeoning growth in our local, state, and global communities. We will develop progressive pedagogies to train students in contemporary theories, methods, and instrumentation while preparing them to be life-long learners who will thrive in an ever-changing world. Teacher-scholars will direct innovative, externally-funded research programs as we pursue the creation of a vibrant doctoral program that fosters scientific leadership.
To advance the intellectual, technological, cultural, and economic condition of the state, region, and nation through the discovery and development of new knowledge in the field of chemistry.
Mission
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry provides professionally certified bachelors of science degrees as well as terminal masters degrees in chemistry and in biochemistry. Our faculty are dedicated to maintaining excellence in education and research to serve the people of Texas and beyond. The department fosters innovative research programs that expand knowledge through discovery and development, actively contribute to the broader scientific community, and address critical global needs. We are committed to the professional development and mentoring of a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students.
- The Department of Biochemistry was instituted during the academic year 1999 – 2000 (the first batch of MBBS was admitted in December 2000). The department by and large, meets the requirements stipulated by the Medical Council of India (from time to time), with adequate infrastructure and teaching and nonteaching staff.
- Several students topped in Biochemistry over the years.
- Good collection and excellent preservation of cadavers and sundries
- The department has been a regular venue for the prestigious ‘live’ workshops of the Neurosurgery and ENT departments.
- Scientific papers published by the deptl. staff in indexed journals so far: 13
