Alluri Sitaram Raju Academy of Medical Sciences was named after the famous freedom fighter Alluri Sitaram Raju. The Medical College and the attached Teaching Hospital were established in 1999 as a non profit society.

The hospital was started with the aim of providing quality health care to the underserved populace in and around Eluru. The College and Hospital are located in a vast area of about 100 acres. The campus is located adjacent to National Highway no.5 (AH 45). It is 3 kms from Eluru Railway station and 35 kms from Vijayawada International airport.

The Medical College was started with an annual intake of 100 MBBS students. Necessary permissions from Medical Council of India, Government of India and Government of Andhra Pradesh were obtained. The College is affiliated to Dr YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. Post graduate courses in all Broad Specialties were started in 2007. All Medical and surgical super specialties are being added. The MCI has permitted for increase in annual intake of MBBS students to 150 from the Academic year 2009-10.

The college has gone for enhancement of MBBS intake in the year 2021 from 150 to 250 after approval of National Medical Commission and at present having 2 batches of 250 students in ASRAM Medical college.

The medical college and associated General and Super speciality hospital are NABH and NABL accredited with ISO 14001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 50001:2018 certified reflecting the quality and standards this institute upholds
